Chinese Toolbox
End User License Agreements

In layman’s terms, here’s the gist of the licenses. If you choose to download and use either of the Chinese Toolbox programs, this is what you agree to:

Chinese Toolbox FREE is and always will be distributed as freeware. You can use it for your own personal study of Chinese. In exchange for this freeware software, you agree to the following:

  • You will not hack the software.
  • You will not reverse engineer the software.
  • You will not modify any of the binary code.

The developer does reserve the right to retire (expire) any version of Chinese Toolbox FREE at any time. Normally, this would only occur for older versions of the program that can no longer be supported. And normally this would occur only with a conspicuous announcement on the Chinese Toolbox home page several weeks or months before such expiration were to take effect.

Now for the legalese: Chinese Toolbox FREE End User License Agreement

 

Chinese Toolbox READER: Version 9.2.0.0 is being distributed as freeware. There may or may not be minor updates to Chinese Toolbox READER 9.2 (for example, 9.2.1.0, 9.2.1.1, etc.), and any minor or bug fix updates of version 9.2 would also be released as freeware.

However, it must be understood that Chinese Toolbox READER 9.2.x.x is a promotional product. It will remain free to use only until the release of version 10.0. Contrary to what freeware usually means (free forever), the freeware label applies only to version 9.2 and any minor updates. With the release of version 10, Chinese Toolbox READER will no longer be a freeware product.

Also note that when Chinese Toolbox READER 10.0 becomes available, Chinese Toolbox READER 9.2 (and any of its minor updates) will be retired. It will expire and cease to function. A conspicuous announcement will appear on the Chinese Toolbox home page at least several weeks before such expiration occurs.
